Towards the end of each month we are going to feature a store of the month! March’s store of the month is Sonia’s Bridal Studio. It is a quaint little boutique located in an old house in Calgary, Alberta. We caught up with Joyce and Sonia who answered our questions!
How and when did you start Sonia’s Bridal Studio?
Sonia’s Bridal Studio opened in 2001. I love working with fabric and started sewing at the age of 15. I began home-based sewing for bridesmaid dresses and then expanded to two bridal retail stores.
Describe Sonia’s Bridal Studio in four words:
Exclusive, vogue, affordable and friendly.
What is your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part is helping the bride find her dream dress which reflects her sense of style and personality.
What tips would you offer to brides?
Follow your heart when it comes to choosing your dream dress. Remember to include alterations, taxes and accessories in your budget so that you don’t destroy your joy in choosing a gown that you can afford.
What is your favourite wedding trends of 2016?
The wedding trends of 2016 are all beautiful. The trend I like the most is the dresses that have a different colour of lining under the ivory lace. It makes the lace stand out more. The designers are very smart to bring different colours to the wedding instead of traditional ivory and white.
What is your favourite gown from the Lis Simon collection and why?
Hara is our favourite gown from the Lis Simon collection. It looks different with the champagne colour lining under the ivory lace. It also has the illusion neckline and plunging back. *Underlay also available in white, ivory and blush*
What does 2016 have in store for Sonia’s Bridal Studio?
We always travel the high fashion world in search of the latest trends and top exclusive designers to offer to our customers. We are revamping our 2016 collections and are very excited about Lis Simon!
