For October’s Store of the Month, we are featuring Something White Bridal! They are a cute little boutique located in Kansas City, Missouri. Brittany, the Owner, answered some questions for us!
How and when did you start Something White Bridal Boutique?
I worked in a bridal store through college and fell in love with my job, but after graduation I knew I needed to get a “big girl career” and went into corporate America. My father is a small business owner and because of him it was a goal of mine to open my own business, but I had to put this on pause to financially establish myself first. Three years after sitting at a desk day in and day out I knew I needed a change. I thought about how much I loved my job in college and knew that was what I wanted to do. In February 2014 I went home one day after work and approached my husband with, “what do you think about me opening a bridal boutique?” He quickly said, “well, work out all the details and numbers and if you know you can make it work let’s do it.” Both God and my husband have been my support and rock through this journey and because of them I officially opened our doors in August 2014. The journey ever since has been one that still leaves me speechless. The amount of women we have met along the way who hold special places in our hearts will always be the most rewarding part. I am forever grateful to each and every bride of ours who have allowed us to be a part of their love story.
Describe your store in four words.
Intimate, classic, comfortable, honest.
What is your favourite part about your job?
The ability for us to provide the best bridal shopping experience to each woman that walks through our doors. That moment when the bride finds her gown will never get old.
What tips would you offer brides?
Less is more. Don’t overwhelm yourself with scheduling too many appointments in one day. Schedule two appointments maximum because dress shopping can be emotionally and physically tiring. Your entourage will thank you for it as well, we promise. Speaking of entourage, only bring those people in your life whose opinions matter most to you. If you’re worried about anyone feeling left out, don’t forget there are a lot of exciting things to come with your bridal attire. Bring those extra people with you to help you pick out accessories once your gown has arrived.
What is your current favourite wedding dress trend?
We are loving the plunging necklines. Of course it has to be tastefully done, but when it is there is something so feminine about the fit.
What is your favourite gown from the Lis Simon 2017 collection and why?
India – I’m a sucker for ball gowns and there are so many romantic details about India that I love.
What does the rest of 2017 have in store for Something White Bridal Boutique?
There are a lot of really exciting things happening at the end of 2017, so be sure to check out our Facebook and Instagram for some pretty big announcements coming soon!
Thank you for answering all our questions, Brittany!!
This week’s blog post is about the lovely Ashley Wamboldt, a beautiful Lis Simon real bride, and her husband, Kevin. She wore our Houston gown and looked absolutely gorgeous!!
Ashley met Kevin at one of their friend’s cottages in Orillia, nine years ago! They went to high school together, but didn’t really know each other very well. It was difficult since they were two grades apart and they were in different circles. Through the years, they had a few mutual friends and Kevin was interested in Ashley, so he got up the courage to invite her to his friend’s cottage, and the rest is history!!
Kevin and Ashley both love the outdoors and fishing, so he planned a “fishing trip” for them in Muskoka over the August long weekend. On August 1, 2015 on the drive up, he told her they weren’t actually going fishing, but that he had a surprise for her and she would have to wait until they arrived to find out what it was. He had also made cute little cards with lyrics from their favourite songs that he gave her throughout the day. The first was in the truck on the way up and it read “no I don’t ever want no other shotgun rider beside me singing to the radio”. When they arrived, she discovered he had rented a Seadoo for the day and they were going to have some fun out on the water. Not suspecting anything at this point, she enjoyed the ride! They stopped for lunch and he gave her the second card, which read “well it’s alright, it’s okay, just another day in paradise; there’s no place I’d rather be”. They went back out on the water, and then Kevin noticed an abandoned dock floating in a tiny bay. They docked the Seadoo and sat on the dock in the sunshine talking and then he gave her the last card, which read “you always had an eye for things that glitter, but I was far from being made of gold, I don’t know how, but I scraped up the money, I just never could quite tell you no”. When she looked up he was down on one knee and asked her to marry him!
A couple years later on July 8, 2017, they got married! The ceremony was held outside at Drysdale’s Tree Farm, Egbert, ON, and the reception was held in the Greenhouse at the tree farm. They held their wedding there because they envisioned a country-chic wedding, and it provided them with a more unique space than a typical barn venue. The day was filled with love, laughter, tears, and their closest family and friends (who flew in from the East to West coast of Canada). Their guests loved the laid-back atmosphere and casual attire. “It was by far the best day of our lives!”
Thanks for sharing these wonderful photos and adorable proposal story!! We wish the two of you a happily ever after!
