November’s store of the month is Aglow Bridal Lounge, located in Kamloops, BC.
How and when did you start Aglow Bridal Lounge?
Aglow Bridal Lounge opened its doors in December 2013 as an extension of an already established decorating company called Aglow Weddings. We wanted to bring a fresh and modern option to the bridal market in Kamloops and the BC interior.
Describe the store in four words:
Unique, charming, romantic and inspiring.
What is your favourite part of your job?
That moment a bride finds the perfect dress and you can see it in her expression and body language that she truly loves how she looks and feels.
What is your favourite wedding dress trend?
Leg slits and plunging backs. Perfect for destination or hot weather weddings.
What is your favourite gown from the Lis Simon 2016 collection and why?
Houston is a charming gown that looks flattering on many body types. Its layered skirt is both youthful and sophisticated, depending on the bride who wears it.
The spotlight is shining bright on our gorgeous Indy gown from the new 2017 collection! This dress was the most popular at the market, both in Chicago and New York!
Indy is a beautiful dress made from delicate corded lace overlay and satin lining. It has a romantic sweetheart neckline that frames the face beautifully and an eye-catching trumpet skirt with a tiered lace train. The most popular aspect of this dress at market was the beautiful illusion back with its intricate detailing.
This dress is available in white, ivory, champagne, blush, and oyster.
We had two different looks for the photoshoot. We started off with a pale lip, natural look for the first half of the shoot which took place as the evening sun was shining, making the light super whimsical!
The products used for this look were
Foundation & concealer: Hello Flawless Powder Foundation in ‘petal’ by Benefit and MAC Pro Correct & Conceal Palette
Contour: Shade & Light Contour Palette by Kat Von D
Highlight: Beauty Powder in ‘natural flare’ by MAC
Blush: Naked Flushed by Urban Decay & Spring-sheen by MAC
Powder: HD Microfinish Powder by Make Up For Ever
Shadows: Smoking Eyes Palette by MAC, Tempting , Naked Lunch, Mulch, Sable and Shroom by MAC.
Eyeliner: Pro Longwear Fluidline in Blacktrack by MAC.
Mascara: Full Exposure by Smashbox
False Lashes: Ardell
Lipstick: Sweetie by MAC
Lipgloss: Off Beat by Quo
This was the look that we did for the after sunset images. We wanted to go for a more sultry look so switched up the lipstick for a darker shade. The lipstick that we used was Diva by MAC and the lipgloss was Bordeaux by Revlon. The colour suited Cassidy’s skin tone so well and even matched the colour of the leaves!
A few weeks ago we shot a beautiful Fall styled shoot at Fish Creek Park in Calgary. You can read the behind-the-scenes post here! It was the beginning of October and the chill in the air had just started. Luckily the afternoon that we shot, the sun decided to come out and we had gorgeous whimsical lighting. We used our Hannah gown and the wind was on our side that night – showing off the sexy leg slit perfectly!
When it comes to wedding planning, hair and beauty are a big aspect. Are you going to do it yourself? Or are you going to have a hairstylist?
Here are some of our favourite hairstyles from online!

Could you see yourself walking down the aisle in this?
A new month equals a new store of the month! How is it October already?! This year is flying by! We caught up with Nadine from The Ivory Suite. The Ivory Suite is a sweet boutique located in St John’s, Newfoundland.
How and when did you start The Ivory Suite?
I have always wanted to have my own business and thought about having my own clothing store. When I started shopping for my own wedding gown in 2012 I fell in love with everything bridal. St. John’s needed a bridal boutique that offered both beautiful, modern gowns and an intimate shopping experience. The Ivory Suite opened its doors in November of 2013.
Describe the store in four words:
Fresh, modern, beautiful, intimate
What is your favourite part of your job?
That moment when a bride says “yes” is truly amazing, there is so much emotion…..it is a magical moment. Also getting to know so many amazing brides, hearing their engagement stories, learning about their wedding planning. I often see our brides, as we live in such a small city and I still get hugs from some of them as if we have been friends all of our lives. I also look forward to that time of the year when all the new collections are revealed, it’s just like Christmas! Choosing gowns to bring into our store is such a fun process. Of course, we want to bring in the best for our brides!
What tips would you offer to brides?
The best tips I could offer a bride would be to have an open mind, trust your consultant and don’t judge a dress by how it looks on a hanger. We always say the bride makes the dress, the dress does not make the bride. Be reasonable when it comes to your budget, and only bring people that respect your vision. Too many opinions can really ruin what should be an amazing experience.
I am so in love with all the amazing back detail. Nearly every bride that walks into our store is looking for a gown with amazing back detail…we are finding the back is sometimes more important to the bride than the front of the gown!
What is your favourite Lis Simon gown and why?
I love so many Lis Simon gowns! Hayden is perfection, with that plunging neckline and amazing lace back. Erin is another favorite at our store, it has such a simple elegance and really compliments everyone’s figure. I personally have a little crush on Felicity, that fabric is just incredible……Gwyneth is adored by so many brides. I should probably stop there before I list every Lis Simon gown.
What does 2016 have in store for The Ivory Suite?
We are nearing our third year anniversary this November and we are so excited!! It took some time to build a beautiful collection of gowns and designers that our brides here love. We opened with the idea of being a very modern boutique but found that most brides here are very traditional. Now that we have a beautiful collection of timeless gowns, we really want to expand our collection and focus on some more trendy modern gowns, which was our original intentions and we are finding more brides are starting to request a more modern look.
