Lis Simon Bride Tawny

Tawny and David met online on Plenty of Fish. Due to their conflicting schedules–with Tawny being a working mom of three, and Dave working away a lot–they did not get to meet in person. After 5 long months, they finally had lunch together and hung out as friends. Then came the night of Tawny’s 30th Birthday on October, when they made it official and their love story ensues.

Tawny and her kids moved in to Dave’s house in March, but they had been talking about marriage prior to that. They drove past this “gorgeous southwest/Mexican inspired” bed and breakfast, and in that moment, they knew they wanted to get married there.
The couple made an appointment to view the venue and settle their deposit and figured they’d worry about the actual engagement later. After Dave gave them the check, the couple went outside to take some photos. As Tawny got to the end of taking a panoramic picture of the view, she saw Dave down on his knee with the ring. “I feel like I had an out of body experience. I was so surprised that I couldn’t stop laughing. I finally pulled it together and said yes!”

“Dress shopping was so fun!”
Tawny purchased a dress initially to go with their Mexican inspired wedding at the B&B. However, the plan fell through and they decided to elope. She knew the dress would not work with their new plans. This led her to Lillian Wild with one of her oldest friends. From the very moment she tried on Jude, she immediately knew it was the one. It took going back twice and a lot of budget rearranging to purchase a second dress, but thankfully she did it. “It fit our elopement so well”.
“There is so much greenery and foliage out here (currently writing this from bed out here for our anniversary!) that the fern details on the back paired perfectly.”

After their original venue cancelled on them twice, Tawny had enough of the back and forth decision. “No other venues felt right”. Thankfully, Rockwater Secret Cove Resort offered a beautiful scenery of the ocean, the forest, and a combination of both: The Sunshine Coast.
“Our elopement was an awesome package!”. They got an amazing couple massage the morning of the ceremony and got the bride’s hair and makeup done as she was writing her vows. Dave however got to hangout in their tent house suite, wrote his vows and relaxed for a bit.
The florist dropped off the bouquet as Tawny was having a glass of bubbly before the ceremony. Thanks to her coordinator, the preparation before the ceremony went smooth and well – “She was so lovely, it was like having a mom there to make sure everything went smooth”.
The couple got married on the deck of their suite, with an overlooking ocean. Dave put on a very special song as Tawny walked down the aisle. “Coming down the stairs to see him standing there all dressed up took my breath away. It’s such a special moment”.
Courtney, their photographer, was an absolute professional at being out of the way but getting some shots where Tawny can’t figure out where she was standing! “Taking pictures with her after the ceremony felt like we were hanging with an old friend, even though we had just met. She made us feel so relaxed and captured us and our love perfectly”.
Highlights and Special Moments
Tawny’s mom passed away from ovarian cancer in April of 2016 – “It was almost unbearable to think about getting married without her”. She then found a local woman on Etsy that made beautiful customized bouquet pins. “I got one with a dragonfly and put my mom’s picture in it so she was with me”. She also bought a Mexican turquoise barefoot sandal, a necklace and cuff links for Dave. Tawny’s parents lived in Mexico for 6 months of the year and teal is the colour of ovarian cancer, “so it was a nod to her”.
Her favourite moments would be getting the photos done. “Dave and I went from a few selfies together over the years, to this whole magical, ethereal album that radiates love”.
“Dave says his was seeing me walk down the stairs to marry him. (swoon!)”

Don’t be afraid of being annoying with questions for your vendors, especially if you’re eloping somewhere that isn’t local to you. I had to put a lot of trust in the fact that this is what they do for their business and they know what works. But it’s totally ok to be a little neurotic and send 50 pics of what you want hahaha!
Also, remember to take a few minutes to yourself before you have the ceremony. Reflect on your relationship. The love you have for each other got you to this point, and will get you through so much more.
Oh, and for the love of everything holy, if you bought a tripod and had plans to record your ceremony for friends/family, remember to set it up and actually record it. I completely forgot and am so bummed!
