Tea and Jim goes way back from high school! However, the two did not talk much then. Luckily, thanks to a mutual friend, luck was on their side and the rest is history.

The couple are originally from Milwaukee, WI, but have been living in Minnesota away from family and friends since 2016. Jim planned a weekend trip to Milwaukee, but she didn’t think anything of it as they go visit everyone often. He told her to pack an overnight bag for a night out and getaway with friends. Jim told her that they will have dinner first before meeting up with everyone. He ended up realizing they were quite early and should just check into the hotel – and she “still didn’t suspect a thing and thought it was normal”. The couple went for dinner and before they managed to grab a bite, Jim popped the question and Tea said yes! “We were so excited and happy; we could barely eat our delicious food”.

Tea went to a couple different boutiques with her mom, mother-in-law, sister, and a bridesmaid. Kasey was the first dress she tried on at the first boutique and she immediately liked it! As it was the first dress she tried on, “I didn’t think it was the one at the time”. They spent their day going through bridal appointments but didn’t pick one the day of. The next day, she decided that Kasey was the right one for her and said yes to the dress!

August 21, 2021, at St. Sava Orthodox Cathedral in Milwaukee, WI.
Reception | Bottlehouse 42 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The overall motif was a boho chill theme. The venue is connected to the brewery (it was also Jim’s favourite brewery in the city), and everything felt so special!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM YOUR SPECIAL DAY

Tea is Siberian and although they didn’t do all traditions, the ceremony was a mixed culture wedding – “I was able to incorporate a few things into your classic American wedding!”

Anecdotes from the bride:

  • We had the DJ incorporate Serbian music into the playlist, a lot of Serbian songs that require “kolo” dancing which is where we all hold hand and do certain steps.

  • Many of our guests who did not know how to do it just watched my feet and caught on fast. Honestly, even if they didn’t have their footing down – all that mattered was they had fun and wanted to get involved!

  • We had Serbian flasks which are big round jugs that hold “Sljivovia”, which is usually a plum brandy.

  • My uncle and cousins carried the jug and had everyone take shots!

Tea absolutely loved the first look and spending the whole day together – it was a great chose and so amazing! The thought speeches usually made her cringe, but everyone managed to touch their heart and made them feel so loved. The music! Their DJ did an amazing job at gauging the crowd and figuring out what music to play, “there was literally not one minute of time where the dance floor was not packed, it was unbelievable!” Lastly, the drinks! They had a fully open bar and in Tea’s opinion, it is a must!

PREPARATIONS AND INSPIRATIONS

Pinterest and Instagram helped Tea to visualize her wedding and browsed more using wedding sites.

Romantic, neutral, and boho – words that best described their wedding. The ceremony was supposed to be September 5, 2020, but due to COVID, it had to get pushed up the following year. Tea had already done much of the planning for a fall style wedding, so she was stuck on with neutrals with hints of copper and rust. “It was able to translate well to August, so it wasn’t that much of a pain to adjust! I knew I really wanted a soft look.”

HONEYMOON

“We don’t have a decision yet!”

Tea is currently in a graduate school so they’re planning to go in January during school break. The couple is also planning on going somewhere warm!

From Tea:

Open bar and good music!!! I promise this is the most important to your guests lol! Everything else is great too but these are the reasons that guests have the best time! Also, somethings going to go wrong, be okay with that happening

Special thanks to:

I did lots of researching and searching. But honestly I mainly went with recommendations for the most part! I love working with people who I know my friends have enjoyed in the past.
