Lis Simon Bride Katherine

Katherine and Alex met in high school through mutual friends. One night, a friend of hers mentioned “I know someone who likes you”, and after that exchange, she would catch Alex looking at her when he thought she wouldn’t see. Katherine started calling him her boyfriend to his friends, as 15-year-old girls do, but it seemed to work out in my favour!”

The couple planned a trip to San Diego for a long weekend getaway. Alex found a really popular area to watch the sunset on the ocean, aptly named ‘Sunset Cliffs’. Katherine thought to herself: “if there’s a time to do it, this would be really romantic”. On their way to the beach, she looked over at his pocket, but no ring box was in sight. When they got to the cliffs, Alex insisted Katherine to walk in front of him until they found a good place to watch the sunset. Finally, as the sun was on the horizon line, he pulled the ring box from behind his back. She asked him after where he hid it, and he said, “inside my pants. I knew you’d look at my pocket on the drive over. That’s why I needed you to walk in front of me, I had to get it out!”.

Katherine only went to two boutiques and find each of them very different. The first boutique only had sample sale styles, which were all extremely unique, “I tried on a dress made out of stretchy corduroy, unique”. The second store was where she found her dress. “My stylist was amazing and took my ideas and brought them to life”. Her stylist had her try on separates, as she was in love with certain aspects of dresses but hated others within the same dress. “When I tried the combination she picked for me, I knew it was the one!” Katherine asked if some changes could be made, such as an insert side cut outs and taking the full-length buttons away, and her stylist mentioned that Lis Simon is so easy to pick and choose customizations. When she got to see the final product, I was amazed that they nailed my dream dress.

Having a live band was important to them as they are frequent concert goers – the live band kept the energy up all night! They didn’t include anything traditional just because it was “tradition’ – no garter or bouquet toss, no dollar dance, no cake cutting. Instead, they had an ice cream truck and did an ice cream toast! That was so much more meaningful to me because all of our early dating days were centred around ice cream”.
Highlights From Your Special Day
Anecdotes from the bride:
We did a combined Mother/Son, Father/Daughter dance.
My dad is really into vinyl records, so I had a custom record with songs that reminded me of him made to give to him.
I also had started writing in a journal when I knew I wanted to marry Alex to give to him on our wedding day. I think I started back in 2017 and I’d do entries every few months up until the day before the wedding. Reading back through was so special to see all the milestones we had experienced together.
I loved the time after the ceremony and before we entered the reception, Alex and I had time along with our photographer – all the nerves were gone, and we were just basking in each other’s company!
Preparations & Inspirations
The couple mostly wanted a modern twist on a classic feel for their wedding. After seeing their photographs from the wedding day, “it really came off as light & airy and I LOVED that. All the photos look like they were taken in Dreamland.
General ideas came from Pinterest and more ideas on local vendors that came from Instagram pages, seeing what local brides did at the same venue. Katherine also used WedKC, a local KC wedding magazine, a lot. She also gave her planner/florist full creative license to just do what she thought would look best with general themes she had, and of course, she nailed it – trust your vendors!
Honeymoon
Katherine and Alex went to the island of natural beauty, Kauai, Hawaii.
Special thanks to:
First looking in local wedding magazines/instagram. Then I would research their websites or instagram to see if they fit the vibe I was going for.
