To further know about the wonders and raves about them, we’ve asked Tara, the owner of the store, about the how their story started!

WHY AND HOW DID YOU START BATEAU BRIDAL BOUTIQUE?
As a lifelong Alaskan, I knew that someday I was going to open and operate a small business in the place that I called home. I met my husband, Jacob, while attending college at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. We had a fabulous wedding in 2012 and from that experience, along with years of working weddings, I can now pass on my knowledge to future brides.
I never imagined I would find my passion working in the bridal industry, but I can honestly tell you - I am so happy that I did! Bateau Bridal Boutique was opened in 2013 after discovering that Alaska brides should be able to find their perfect gown without having to leave the state. I want every bride to have the experience that I wanted to have – a memorable time shopping, access to quality, and responsibly made gowns at reasonable prices.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
We love being able to help brides in a private and safe space, where all are welcome. Shopping for your wedding gown is such a memorable experience and we love that we get to be a part of it in such a positive way. Seeing a bride feel so beautiful in our gowns, is truly an unmatched feeling.
WHAT TIPS WOULD YOU OFFER BRIDES?
We have so many tips that we could offer to our brides, but our main tip is to give yourself time! Shopping for your wedding gown can be stressful with how many options you have and it is important to allow yourself the time to find the right one, allow yourself the time needed to order the gown and have alterations done, and finally, we want you to have the much-needed peace of mind that your gown is here and ready for you to walk down the aisle in!
WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT FAVOURITE WEDDING DRESS TREND?
We are loving detachable anything - sleeves, bows, capes, you name it! Who doesn't love two looks?
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE GOWN FROM THE LIS SIMON 2023 COLLECTION AND WHY?
We just unpacked Ophelia and we are in love!! The simplicity and clean lines in the front of the gown are so flattering and classy, while the pop of lace in the back adds that “wow” factor.
WHAT WEDDING TRENDS ARE YOU NOTICING BRIDES DOING IN YOUR AREA?
Alaska is such a unique place, which means that our trends are unique as well. During Covid, our brides were not going to let anything stop them, which means that they had to adapt and get creative if they wanted their special day! Since then, our brides have embraced nature and it is amazing to see! From hiking to your ceremony spot, to getting married in the Prince William Sound on a charter boat, the photo and memories are so worth it!
As far as bridal gown trends go, our brides are starting to really love the exposed corset and boning in gowns. Detachable sleeves and minimal lace/sparkle are always a popular look for us.
ANY EXCITING NEWS OR UPCOMING EVENTS FOR BATEAU BRIDAL BOUTIQUE?
This past fall and winter have been so busy and full of fun events for us! At this time, we do not have anything on the books, however, we usually host our annual spring sale around March! We will be updating our website once we have something scheduled.
WHAT DO THE NEXT FEW MONTHS HAVE IN STORE FOR BATEAU BRIDAL BOUTIQUE?
The next few months will be our busy season, we will happily welcome so many brides-to-be into the boutique and we cannot wait to show off our new Lis Simon gowns!
AMONGST ALL OF LIS SIMON’S COLLECTION, WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE GOWN AND WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL?
Nicki is one of the most special gowns in the collection to us because it was the first gown that caught our attention during the National Bridal Market in Chicago. This gown brought us into the booth and opened our eyes to the entire Lis Simon’s Bridal Collection, which we could not be more excited about!
