Lis Simon Bride Haley
Old Hollywood Glamour
Lis Simon Bride Haley and Logan’s winter wedding at Walden Chicago was inspired by an old Hollywood vintage vibe. Haley wore a beaded Oko dress, a sparkly gown that channels glamour and captures the essence of Marilyn Monroe. The dinner was surrounded by white florals and candlelight, making it a truly romantic night.
THE LOVE STORY
Haley and Logan met in March of 2020, just a few days before the world shut down due to COVID-19. At that time, Haley was finishing her graduate degree, actively working with COVID patients in the hospital, and starting a nursing job in the intensive care unit. To ensure she didn’t expose Logan or his family during that uncertain period, their relationship was limited to FaceTime, phone calls, and text messages. This careful approach allowed them to connect while navigating the challenges and unknowns of the pandemic.
In May 2020, they were finally able to start spending time together in person and spent most of their time exploring Chicago. Their relationship didn't have the typical beginning one might expect, but it was a unique and memorable start.
THE PROPOSAL
October 2022
When Haley came home from an appointment, she found that Logan had set up their kitchen for a special moment. He asked her there, with a dinner planned for just the two of them. It was a simple and intimate gesture that made the evening memorable.
THE DRESS
It was an incredible experience for Haley! Living in Chicago, she visited her parents in Minnesota and decided to look at dresses while she was home, with no intention of buying anything that day. She had already booked appointments for the following month at boutiques in Chicago. However, while trying on several gowns, Haley tried on the BEADED OKO from Lis Simon and instantly knew it was the perfect dress for the vision she had in mind.
WEDDING & RECEPTION
January 12, 2024 at Walden Chicago
The reception began with a happy hour, featuring the most delicious hors d'oeuvres. Haley and Logan conducted a room reveal before welcoming their guests into the beautifully candlelit dinner and reception space. The ambiance was designed to be warm, cozy, and exude an air of elegance. It was absolutely perfect.
FAVOURITE MOMENTS
Logan’s mom, Shashi, was born and raised in Nepal, and it was important to Haley and Logan to honour her culture on their big day. As a wedding gift to Haley, Shashi and her sisters presented her with a Tilhari, a gold and beaded necklace integral to wedding ceremonies and traditionally worn by married Nepalese women. During the ceremony, Logan and Haley exchanged rings, and Logan also placed the Tilhari on Haley. In return, Haley adorned Logan with a ceremonial duboko mala.
Logan and his family proudly wore the Salam Sakma, a symbol that identifies them as members of the Limbu tribe in Nepal. Logan and his mom also performed a traditional Nepalese dance for their Mother/Son dance, adding a special cultural touch to the celebration.
One of Haley's favourite moments was having a first look with all the important men in her life: her dad, Logan, and their bernedoodle, Rigatoni. Riggs was initially afraid of her dress but quickly warmed up.
Another highlight of the evening was the grand sparkler exit. Everyone was filled with joy as Haley and Logan walked through a tunnel of sparklers multiple times, creating a magical and fun atmosphere. They had rented a white G Wagon, their dream car, for the wedding day. After the sparkler exit, they drove away in it, keeping the energy high and the celebration lively. Unlike many weddings that wind down with only a few guests left, this unexpected exit ensured that everyone remained engaged and joyful until the very end.
PREPARATIONS & INSPIRATIONS
Haley envisioned an old Hollywood and vintage vibe for her wedding, focusing on a colour palette of black, white, and champagne, enhanced by abundant candlelight. When she found the beaded Oko dress, she felt an immediate connection, likening the feeling to that of Marilyn Monroe. She knew instantly that it was the perfect choice.
Haley drew much of her inspiration from Pinterest, complementing it with thorough research into their chosen venue. She wanted to ensure every detail accentuated the glamorous and timeless theme she aimed to achieve.
HONEYMOON
After their wedding, Haley and Logan went to Charleston, SC, for a relaxing trip. But they're not done traveling yet! They're super excited for a longer trip to Europe later this year, ready to explore new places and make amazing memories together.
Special thanks to:
I looked into probably close to 35 different venues and I wanted to find a venue that made me feel supported. I also did a lot of research on other Chicago vendors through instagram so I could see all of their work and look through their portfolios. Walden was the most amazing venue we could have asked for. They have all inclusive wedding planning included in their venue package along with their own food and beverage team as well! The Plum and Ivy team at Walden also helped to offer recommendations on other vendors they love to work with. We still continue to receive compliments on the venue, food and overall experience to this day.
