Patricia and Dennis met through mutual friends. They spent a lot of time hanging out as part of a larger group, going to parties, and enjoying a mutual love for trivia. After a few months of being friendly, he kissed her at a party. Their friendship quickly turned into more – they couldn’t believe how their paths had crossed so many times before, but they had just never considered the possibility of dating!

The couple had just come from an outdoor concert in Vancouver. Patricia was very tired, and Dennis kept encouraging her to get caffeinated, which she found odd. They came back to their place and while he was “struggling” to find his keys, he got down on one knee. They got back in the car, went back downtown, and had a romantic night with champagne at a hotel.

Patricia went to Victoria, BC, to find her dress. She tried on lots of gowns, but none of them really felt like her. When she saw our Juno gown, she immediately knew she wanted to try it on. She stepped out of the change-room and her mom cried, and she knew it was the one!

Their wedding ceremony and reception was held at the Performance Works on Granville Island in Vancouver, BC. Their ceremony was amazing. It was intimate, heartfelt, and emotional. Saying their vows in front of all their friends and family was more powerful than they could have imagined Patricia and Dennis aimed for a cozy, warm atmosphere at the reception. Long tables, lots of candle light, and beer steins! The reception was everything they wanted. Patricia aimed for a lot of neutral colours, wood, and then greenery for the tables. She purchased most of the decor from other brides.

They had a small traditional Ugandan wedding celebration two days before their actual ceremony, where her family from abroad was formerly introduced to Dennis’. During the reception, they honoured his family tradition by drinking from a chalice, given to his grandfather at birth. His parents, aunts, uncles, and siblings have all done the same.

Honeymoon Destination: Barbados – Patricia recommends time away right after the wedding, time to rest!

Where did you find your inspiration while planning?
I spent a fair amount of time pinning, and attended a wedding show for inspiration. Local Facebook groups also helped for advice.

How did you find your vendors?
I sent out a lot of emails and did quite a few google searches. Instagram was also a good was to get an idea of the work the vendors have done in the past.

Do you have any tips for future brides?
Prioritize. Figure out what part of the wedding is the most important to you, and focus your energy there. Don’t be afraid to delegate. Hire a day-of coordinator!
