Coffee Dates

From hiking to coffee dates and to eternity.

For the month of August, we have chosen our creative Lis Simon Bride Sabrina who chose to wear our dearest Kaye dress.

Tony and Sabrina met through their church community. Although they weren’t in the same similar circle, they had the chance to hang out during a hiking trip with a big group. Tony lived near Sabrina’s and had the perfect opportunity to pick her up: “we have a solid 15 minutes to chat one-on-one. Conversation flowed naturally, and we both felt so comfortable. The two had a blast with the hiking group, as well, and continued to chat for a few weeks over Facebook before Tony officially asked her out on a coffee date. “That coffee date turned into many more dates, and the rest is history!”

“The hardest thing to do is to surprise me, but all I wanted from the proposal was to be surprised”.

The original proposal plan was spoiled because one of Sabrina’s close friends accidentally told her about it (long story). Everyone was panicking, and Tony had to quickly change plans. One of her friends, who is a nurse, invited Sabrina to a “celebration” at the hospital as she was going to receive an award. On the day of the “event”, it was raining, and Sabrina was lying in her bed until 10 minutes before she had to leave. She quickly put on a dress and did her eyebrows and eyelashes before her friend picked her up. Her friend asked if they could stop by a park to take pictures, and thought it was weird but agreed right away because it was her “special day”.

They walked in the rain with their heels to a picturesque spot in the park: an overlooking to a lake and the city skyline. All of a sudden, Tony came out of nowhere (Sabrina was honestly surprised), and she finally realized what was about to happen. Tony got down on one knee, and though she doesn’t remember anything else he said, she remembers hearing, “Will you marry me?”, and she said YES! “We shared such a special moment in the rain and celebrated afterwards with our friends, many of whom flew in from out of state”.

“My experience was so short!”

Right after the engagement, Sabrina visited one of her friends (her bridesmaid) in North Carolina. Just for fun, they booked an appointment at a bridal boutique there. She wasn’t expecting to find a dress but picked a few to try on. The last dress she tried on was a Lis Simon and so different than what she thought she’d like. Sabrina was so drawn to it, especially the unique detailing and low-cut back. “When I walked out in the dress, my friend’s reaction said it all, and I bought the dress that day. Anyone who knows me knows that I spend forever making decisions, so this was so unlike me!”

“Our reception was a huge dance party!”

It was important to the couple that their guests would have a fun time. The night was spent eating and drinking A LOT, and of course, hitting up the dance floor – “I’ve never seen Tony dance so much before”.

Highlights from your wedding day

Details from the bride:

  • We didn’t do anything unique, but we honored our parents during the ceremony, which was extremely special for us. Tony cried like a baby during this part!

  • Due to the pandemic, our original wedding was postponed, and we hadn’t seen so many of our family members or friends in a long time. So, my favorite moment was walking into the ceremony and seeing all my favorite people in one place. It was honestly so surreal! Eating the appetizers and food was also a favorite.

Preparations and Inspirations

The couple wanted a relaxed and intimate wedding – hence, a warm and romantic wedding was set. The venue was a massive open space, so they utilized curtains to section off areas, candles, and warm neutral colours such as taupe and champagne was used for décor and florals.

Fun fact: Sabrina, herself, is actually a wedding coordinator! Her job allowed her to see various types and styles of weddings. Throughout the year, she made notes of things she liked and didn’t like from the weddings she was part of. “But like many other women, I spent hours and found so much inspiration on Pinterest and Instagram.”

Honeymoon

The couple is planning to go to South Korea and Japan in April, “we are excited for all the amazing food!”

From Sabrina

The planning period is filled with busy moments as well as calm moments. Don’t feel like you need to be planning or thinking about the wedding all the time! It’s normal to have a season when you’re not doing much, especially after you choose your bigger vendors.

Another tip I have if you’re planning your own wedding is to involve your partner in the wedding planning process. It can be a fun experience to make decisions together and to see what their opinions are. Delegate and give your partner tasks to complete so you don’t get overwhelmed!e.

Special note: If any couples in the Atlanta area are looking for a day-of coordinator or would like any wedding advice, feel free to reach out to me on Instagram @sabchae.

Special thanks to:

All our vendors were ones I worked with at previous weddings or are friends in the wedding industry so choosing vendors was luckily easy!
