Lena & Mae Bridal
Lena & Mae Bridal, located in Woodstock, New Brunswick, recently opened up their adorable shop a few months ago, so naturally, we asked them to be our Store of the Month for June! Katie, the owner, has answered some questions for us!
Why and how did you start Lena & Mae?'
When I shopped for my wedding dress in 2012 I didn't have the personalized experience that I had been seeing on tv. Now, I do live in rural New Brunswick, Canada, but I believe that every bride should have an unforgettable experience. I didn't have a dedicated stylist and the dresses were stuffed on the racks like sardines. I did find a dress, and the experience was memorable, but not how it should have been. When I returned home after the long drive, I knew that I could offer brides more. It took 5+ years of sitting on the idea, but in 2017, I made the decision to change careers and open a shop in my hometown.
Describe your store in four words.
Fresh. Pretty. Cozy. Peaceful.
What is your favourite part about your job?
Catching the brides' first look at herself in a dress that makes her feel beautiful — I often get to see that before her family/friends, and it's so special.
What tips would you offer brides?
1; don't change who you are for your wedding day. Your fiancé fell in love with YOU, so be you xo. 2; be comfortable on your wedding day! There is no reason why you can't find a comfortable and stylish dress.
What is your current favourite wedding dress trend?
I love the easy, effortless trend, as seen in Jill & Josie. Dresses don't need to be complicated to be beautiful.
What is your favourite gown from the Lis Simon 2018 collection and why?
It's a toss-up between Jordan and June. Jordan fits my brides beautifully — the train is gorgeous but doesn't get in the way, and the ruching on the butt is killer! And June makes everyone feel like a princess.
What do the next few months have in store for Lena & Mae?
I opened my doors on January 19th, and had our grand opening in February, and welcoming the newly engaged ladies of New Brunswick and surrounding areas. I'm also participating in a giveaway with Weddings NB (a new bridal magazine for New Brunswick couples). They have launched a contest which will award one lucky NB couple with a wedding package worth over $13,000. I'll be donating $1500 towards a dress from my shop.
Katie, thank you for answering all our questions and sending us these lovely photos of your boutique!
