Lis Simon Bride Alex
Alex met her husband, Ben, in graduate school at Vanderbilt University. They are absolutely adorable together!! (We are also obsessed with this floral arch!!)
On December 19, 2015, Ben proposed in Alex's apartment in Nashville, Tennessee the morning they were getting ready to leave to spend the holidays with her family in North Carolina. They were running late, so Alex was rushing around, stuffing wrapped gifts and clothes into bags and Ben was sitting on the couch in her living room. Alex came into the living room to pack up more gifts and had her back turned to him. When she finished packing and turned back around, he was down on one knee!!
"Although Ben and I have a lot in common, we had very different visions for our wedding day. Ben is more traditional and I am very non-traditional. After a lot of communication, compromise, and careful planning, our wedding ended up being a beautiful blend of both our personalities and values! We did a first-look instead of having the first time we saw each other be during the ceremony. Our ceremony readings included both scripture and an excerpt from one of my favorite Brené Brown books. The special music was a traditional hymn, but the Best Man (Ben's brother, Adam) played and sang a more contemporary version on acoustic guitar. We wrote our own vows, and I had both bridesmaids and bridesmen on my side of the wedding party." ~ Alex
Alex and Ben got married on June 3, 2017, in Shelby North Carolina. Both the reception and ceremony were held at Slightly Different Nursery, a 106-acre daylily farm. The ceremony was on a hilltop surrounded by the South Mountains, cocktail hour was in a rustic red barn, and the reception was in a candle-lit pole tent.
